We make the car. You make it VW.
Volkswagen has a rich history of innovation and craftsmanship, known for creating iconic models. However, the team at Volkswagen believe no matter the craftsmanship, no matter the design aesthetic, their cars don't truly become a Volkswagen until there are people in them. It is the many human moments like school drop-offs, the morning coffee run or a weekend roadie that forms the connection between people and the Volkswagen that they own, and love.
Volkswagen New Zealand has released a new brand film to celebrate this bond, highlighting the unique role that Volkswagen plays in the lives of those who drive them. Whether it's WalkiesVW when you are walking the dogs, Mum'sVW on the daily commute or Dave'sVW, getting our in nature, this montage style film showcases the heart-warming dynamic between people and their VW's.
Helena Schultz, Head of Marketing says; "The yourVW campaign perfectly reflects the role Volkswagen often play in Kiwi families, when the car is much more than a car, it is a treasured member of the family. Our owners often have names for their cars, celebrate their birthdays and even document milestones with their VW. This is our point of difference as a brand, and when we developed this work, we knew we wanted it to be a tribute to our owners' past and present. As part of this campaign, we have created a platform where owners can share these special memories."
From today, every Volkswagen owner will have the opportunity to upload their very own unforgettable Volkswagen stories and memories showcasing how they've embraced their Volkswagen as part of their family. The launch of the hero film is part of a new communications framework that will include various content series and activations throughout the year and beyond, whether in Volkswagen dealerships, across social media or at physical events. "YourVW will underpin communications across all channels and continue to celebrate and grow the Volkswagen owner community," says Helena Schultz.
Since Volkswagen's arrival in New Zealand in 1953, with the opening of the first assembly plant in Otahuhu, Auckland, thousands of Kiwis have made the brand a family favourite, purchasing Volkswagens across generations. From the owners who cherish their iconic classics to those embracing modern times, every single one has played a vital role in the milestones of Volkswagen's history in Aotearoa.
"With models being passed down from generation to generation for more than 70 years, Volkswagen vehicles have touched the lives of thousands of Kiwis. We want to acknowledge our heritage and the customers that have made our brand what it is today. We are thrilled to be able to create a space for our customer community to connect and share their unique story, as no two stories are the same." says Chanelle McDonald, General Manager Passenger Vehicles.
The brand film is also the first local preview of the highly anticipated, all‑new ID.Buzz. Inspired by the classis Kombi and a tribute to Volkswagen's legacy. The original Kombi has taken Kiwis on countless road trips, creating moments that will never be forgotten. Today, the spirit of this icon transitions into the electric age with Volkswagen's first fully electric van, the all‑new ID.Buzz.
"The all‑new ID.Buzz will receive generations of cherished memories, while creating new ones for today's drivers. We look forward to seeing new owners sharing stories about their ID.Buzz with big smiles on their faces, as this model becomes a symbol of modern freedom, continuing its predecessor's legacy," says Kevin Richards, General Manager Commercial Vehicles.
The ID.Buzz is set to arrive at your local Volkswagen dealership in 2025. Register your interest here to stay updated with the latest informaiton.
