Volkswagen doubles the driving pleasure with the new Golf GTE Plug-in hybrid

Volkswagen is electrifying its iconic Golf with the arrival of the new plug-in hybrid model to New Zealand. Offering a powerful combination of petrol and electric, the new Golf GTE is attractive to consumers who value style, sustainability and sporty performance.

A hybrid version of the perennially popular hatchback, the new Golf GTE offers the same heart-racing Golf thrills and explosive DNA customers love, with the addition of advanced plug-in hybrid technology. Boasting a combined system output of 180kW, 400 Nm, the vehicle is as efficient as it is powerful. Offering a maximum electric range of up to 60km⁠ (WLTP), customers can effortlessly switch between the two motors. Additionally, both the petrol and electric motors feature an extra electric Boost function to enhance power output when needed.

Designed for the modern lifestyle and day-to-day use, ease and accessibility are top of mind and drivers can easily charge the electric motor's battery using a standard domestic socket. It takes approximately 7 hours & 30 minutes at 1.8kW to fully charge the battery in this way, so you can charge overnight or during your workday, to get back to 100% charge with ease. You can drive many everyday routes inexpensively and, above all, locally emission-free - day after day.

The introduction of the plug-in Golf GTE is part of the brand's wider road map to become net carbon-neutral by 2050. Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter says: “We have ambitious sustainability targets and are passionate about providing customers with options that will bring smarter and more sustainable vehicles to the roads. Building on the popularity of our iconic Golf hatchback, the plug-in hybrid version is a welcome addition to the electric landscape.”

Style is second nature to the Golf GTE, bringing a sporty, elegant appearance that’s amplified by striking LED taillight clusters and a roof spoiler. Meanwhile, extra powerful IQ.LIGHT headlights stretch all the way round to the side wings, providing functionality and sophistication. 

Inside the vehicle is a spacious and comfortable interior, enhanced by premium sport seats and interior ambient lighting to create an atmosphere unique to you. For a customisable driving experience, the centre Infotainment System is your access point, while the configurable driver display delivers innovative technology and state-of-the-art connectivity. Both screens link into the GTE's built-in Satellite Navigation system, ensuring you are getting where you need to go.
